Sanford Area Soccer League takes home four titles and one second place finish at the 2009 Pine Cone Cup Classic which took place on November 21-22 in Southern Pines.

U10 Thunder, U10 Sabres, ’97 Firestorm Red, and ’95 Lightning were all undefeated in their age groups. The U12 SASL Firestorm took home a second place finish.

The U10 SASL Thunder played a five-team round-robin, where the champion and the finalist were determined by points after four matches. This was the first soccer tournament this U9 team has participated in since beginning play in the Challenge division.

Brandon Jones was instrumental in all four victories with exemplary play as the goalkeeper for the SASL Thunder.

The U10 SASL Sabres took home 1st place in the U11 Challenge Division of the Pine Cone Cup.

Key Defensive Players:

Jack Davenport and Dawson Riggins led the Sabres’ defense throughout the tournament. Colton Dutchess, the Sabres’ goalkeeper, made numerous key saves to assist the Sabres with their 1st place finish.

The U12 SASL Firestorm finished in 2nd place in their U12 division.
